Child-Friendly Dental Tips Every Parent Should Know
Child-Friendly Dental Tips Every Parent Should Know
November 18, 2024

Start Early with Dental Care
Begin cleaning your baby’s gums with a soft cloth before their first tooth emerges. Once the first tooth appears, switch to a baby toothbrush with fluoride toothpaste.

Use finger toothbrushes for gentle cleaning—they’re easy for parents and comfortable for babies.

Make Brushing and Flossing Fun
Turn brushing into a game, like “defeating sugar monsters” with their toothbrush. Let your child pick a toothbrush with a favorite character or a fun color.

Use apps like Brush DJ or Disney Magic Timer to make brushing interactive.

Choose Tooth-Friendly Foods
Replace sugary snacks with fun alternatives like apple slices, cheese cubes, or colorful veggie sticks.

Encourage “crunch time” by challenging your child to choose the loudest crunchy snack, like carrots or celery.

Be a Role Model
Brush and floss alongside your child to show how it’s done.

Talk positively about oral care, saying things like, “I love how clean my teeth feel after brushing!” This encourages them to mimic your enthusiasm and habits.

Make Dental Visits Exciting
Start dental visits early to build comfort. Reward their efforts with stickers or a small toy after their appointment.

Create a “Healthy Teeth Chart” at home where they earn rewards for brushing and flossing daily.

At Queens Quay Dental Centre, we make dental care enjoyable for kids with a welcoming environment and expert care.
